FAITH AND SERVICE

Wesleyan Disciples

The hallmark of campus ministry is the Wesleyan Disciples program, which consists of students who have been active in their local churches and are committed to living out their faith through service. Wesleyan Disciples work to support one another and students on campus to grow and thrive spiritually. They give their time, talents, and gifts to:

  • Plan and lead worship services and other opportunities for religious and spiritual engagement
  • Participate weekly in intentional time for biblical study, spiritual practices, and mutual support and encouragement
  • Get involved in servant leadership and volunteerism through the Office of Faith and Service
  • Set an example to the student body for practicing faith in ways that serve and empower others, both on campus and in the community
Servant Leaders

Welseyan has a rich history of giving back to the local community through time and service in myriad ways. We have more than fifty community partners that offer students the chance to work hands-on inside their establishments and in the immediate area in order to serve diverse populations. Through interactive initiatives and opportunities, servant leaders are able to volunteer their time in helping organizations with various tasks. All servant leaders will be required to:

  • Participate in at least twenty-five hours of community service/campus service initiatives per semester
  • Help in the planning and implementation of service activities
  • Be the liaison for all servant leaders if asked at various conferences, meetings and gatherings
  • Assist the student body in being more active in giving back to the City of Macon through service

Students who participate as servant leaders will be credited with volunteer hours that qualify for a number of scholarships, internships, and grants, while receiving departmental support during the application process.

The Council for Religious Unity (CRU)

CRU is a student organization charged with opening the channels of communication necessary for these deeper conversations surrounding both faith and social change. CRU regularly hosts activities and events that celebrate important festivals and holy days from many of the world’s prominent religions. Students who are a part of CRU will be able to help advise campus faith groups and religious and spiritual life interns on how to create inclusive spaces that aid in helping all persons feel welcomed. Under the direction of the campus chaplain and the director of faith and service, CRU empowers leaders to curate meaningful moments for spiritual empowerment, uplift, and affirmation.

Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM)

Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM), a faith group that Wesleyan students can enjoy and experience. BCM is not exclusively for students who identify as Baptist Christians. We welcome and appreciate students of diverse religious backgrounds. BCM’s mission is to foster friendship, help students discover what it means to be a follower of Christ, and serve others. BCM offers a safe space for students to discuss and share their own understanding of scripture through the weekly Bible study meetings. BCM meets on Sundays at 4:00 pm and Tuesdays for lunch at 12:30 pm.

Episcopal and Lutheran Fellowship (ELF)

Wesleyan Episcopal and Lutheran Fellowship is an inclusive, welcoming, and affirming group for students of any background that want to grow in their walk of faith. We meet on Wednesdays at 5 pm for Crafts and Community on the Mt Vernon Porch off the dining hall. During Crafts and Community we engage our creativity by making inspirational crafts (creating gratitude jars, decorating prayer journals, etc) and engage our spirits by encouraging each other in prayer. We are a part of the larger Macon Episcopal and Lutheran Fellowship and participate with them in service projects, nights out, and retreats.

Wesleyan students are also invited to our All ELF meeting on Thursday at 5:30 at St. Paul's Episcopal. For more information, email denadouglashobbs@gmail.com, find us on Instagram at @elfmacon, or visit our website at elfmacon.com.

Wesley

Wesley exists to challenge, inspire, and equip young adults to deepen their relationships with Jesus by creating space for worship, teaching, sacred practices, hard questions, and community for all regardless of background, religious experience, or convictions. Those who participate find the safety to deconstruct, reconstruct, and grow their faith so they are more prepared to transform the world they encounter in Jesus’ name. Every Tuesday night, we gather at Centenary UMC at 7:40 pm for Wesley Worship, which is open to all college students in Macon. On Wesleyan’s campus, Lisett Cruz is hosting a family group on Wednesday nights at 7 pm where everyone is invited to bring their authentic self and grow in faith together. On Fridays, we meet up at 11 am for Community Group, where Wesley staff lead us in learning about God, sharing stories and songs, and tackling the questions we all ask in our faith journeys. We would love for you to come hang out! Join our Groupme at https://bit.ly/wesco_wesley_groupme to stay in the loop on details. Let’s show God’s love on campus!

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

FCA is an organization dedicated to seeing the world or a campus impacted by Jesus through the influence of athletes and coaches. Despites its athletic orientation, FCA is open to all in the community and campus who desire to build outreach, create leaders, and serve. Wesleyan College FCA  goals are to minister to the athletic department and to create connection among various faith groups and individuals.

FCA meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 8pm in the Wolves Den (Porter Gym). This can differ given the breaks.

Amber Davis, Student at Wesleyan

"Wesleyan has allowed me to grow at my own pace and I will always appreciate that. I have taken the time to question faith. Now, I enact my faith and stand firm in my beliefs. The Wesleyan Disciple experience has allowed me to successfully practice my faith and continue service to my community.  My heart is overjoyed to be in such an incredible environment." - Amber Davis '19
